Categories in which to register

The categories which were approved for GISc registration are as follows:

  • GISc Technician GISc Te (SA) Diploma Level Quantification
  • GISc Technologist GISc Tg (SA) 3 Year Degree Level Qualification
  • Professional GISc Practitioner Pr GISc (SA) 4 Year Degree Level Qualification

Once the academic model was approved, it became possible to start evaluating applicants' qualifications according to the academic model. The process is necessary to ensure all applicants qualifications are on the same standard.

The academic model was based on the SAQA academic qualifications.

Does anyone know how they evaluate the requirements for the Professional Qualification? I have a M.Sc as well as 10 years GIS experience and it seems I can only register at the Technologist level. This isn't an ego-fueling comment, or post, but it could be important for GIS consulting if tenders require a GISc Professional registration. Any thoughts on this subject would be appreciated.

Does anyone know how long it takes after submitting a standard application form, to know exactly which category one should be applying for? I submitted the application form towards end August & haven't heard anything. I have a BSc Hons & busy with my MSc as well as 3 years GIS experience(academic + work experience).
