Geotechnical Systems Specialist in the Department of Geography

Recognising that diversity is important in achieving excellence, Rhodes University especially encourages South African members of underrepresented designated groups to apply for the vacancy of Geotechnical Systems Specialist in the Department of Geography

Requirements:

A general sciences degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Geography or equivalent (3 years of study) PLUS 3 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

  • Previous experience providing software support and diagnosing hardware problems
  • Proven ability and/or experience developing, writing mid-level programs as well as modifying computer programs
  • Proven ability to initiate, design/ develop, program and maintain databases and database software (with browser based user interfacing – PHP in particular)
  • Previous hardware and networking experience
  • Experience working with maps
  • At least 6 months previous supervision experience and/or be in possession of an RU Supervision Certificate
  • Previous administrative experience and the ability to reconcile accounts will be an advantage
  • Experience using ESRI GIS and Envi Software will be an advantage.
